Italians are drawn to Portugal by tax benefits, culture and security

After the wave of British and French who left enchanted by the Algarvian charm and moved to the south of Portugal, and is witnessing now a wave of Italian tourists who are settling down in the Algarve, especially in Olhão. These are attracted by the tax benefits, the cultural similarities and security.

In addition to Olhão, many Italian tourists also seek Tavira, Vilamoura, Vila Real de Santo António, Lagos and Faro to settle down. It is mainly the pensioners who are attracted because in this way they are receiving the gross amount of their pensions, escaping the heavy taxation in Italy for ten years.

Many Italian citizens who have moved to Tunisia and Bulgaria in recent years are now returning to Portugal. It is estimated that in Olhão municipality are currently residing about 200 Italian families.
