LISBON HOSTS THE AIRBNB TOURISTS
Some cities put limitations on the short-term rentals ("short-rentals"), promoted by such websites as Airbnb; however Lisbon gladly allows for this type of rentals. Short-term tourism in Lisbon, tripled in volume from year 2014, through sale of dozens of abandoned building through public auctions.
This is the first time that tourism is allowing many people to participate in the city's development process. We should not be afraid of this new dynamic and should not be afraid of growth. On the contrary, we have to prepare the city to welcome other tourists", - said the mayor, Fernando Medina, in his interview to 'Bloomberg'.
Lisbon allows the units for short-term leases to be rented for an unlimited number of nights per year. Other cities set limits, for example in London one can only rent up to 90 nights/year, and 60 nights/year in Amsterdam.
